La Charte de Kurukan Fuga est un ensemble de principes transmis oralement jusqu’à leur codification controversée au XXème siècle. Son origine remonte à l’avènement de l’Empire du Mali entre le XIIIème et le XVème siècle. Malgré son importance historique dans la fondation de l’Empire du Mali, la redécouverte, la systématisation et la large diffusion de la Charte de Kurukan Fuga sont récentes. Considérée par certains comme une contribution significative de l’Afrique à l’histoire des droits de l’Homme et de la démocratie, la Charte de Kurukan Fuga est très souvent considérée comme l’une des références fondant les « valeurs africaines » dont la valorisation devrait être portée par les plus hautes institutions africaines. Depuis sa « redécouverte » en 1998 la Charte de Kurukan Fuga se situe cependant au cœur de plusieurs controverses à la fois au plan scientifique et au plan politico-institutionnel./The Kurunga Fuga Charter is a set of principles that have been transmitted orally until their controversial codification in the XXth century. Its origin goes back to the advent of the Empire of Mali between the XIIIth and the XVth century. Despite its historical importance in the founding of the Empire of Mali, the rediscovery and wide dissemination of the Kurukan Fuga Charter are recent. Considered by some to be a significant contribution of Africa to the history of human rights and democracy, the Charter of Kurukan Fuga is very often considered as one of the references founding the “African values” whose valorisation should be carried by the highest institutions of the continent. Since its “rediscovery” in 1998, the Kurukan Fuga Charter has been at the heart of several controversies, both at the scientific and politico-institutional levels.
