From May 29 to July 11, ASSN Chair, Prof Boubacar N’Diaye, took part in an SSR related UN mission to Burkina Faso.

The objective of the mission was to clarify the Burkinabé authorities’ understanding and vision of SSR and assess the means to implement it, and to identify security
sector reform challenges, in particular with regard to security sector governance.
The mission was also tasked with developing a plan of action to address the challenges in close coordination with the national authorities, and present clear recommendations for UN’s engagement in supporting SSR in Burkina Faso.
The mission was requested by the newly elected president of Burkina Faso (President Roch Marc Kabore) to help him address the aftermath of the political events that unfolded in his country since 2013 popular uprising and their impact on the security sector.
