SRIC is an independent non-profit think-tank that provides data and information on human security and security sector dynamics in Kenya, the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, SRIC's mission is to influence and contribute to positive change in the security sector dynamics in its three geographical regions of focus.
SRIC pursues this mission by conducting research, facilitating policy dialogue aimed at the transformation the security sector and providing verifiable data and information on key security areas and the trends in crime and armed violence in East Africa. It also maintains a dedicated database that makes this data and information easily accessible to government officials, researchers and the media. |

Southern Africa |

Hosting affiliate: Southern African Defence & Security Management Network (SADSEM) Location: Johannesburg, South Africa Regional Coordinator: Prof Gavin Cawthra

SADSEM is a network of nine partner institutions in the 14 member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The SADSEM network seeks to contribute to peace and security in Southern Africa by strengthening the democratic management of its defence forces and other security organs. It does this by offering specialised training programmes to police and military officers and others involved in managing security in the region.
SASDEM also undertakes research on security issues and helps governments in the SADC region to develop their defence policies. The network is managed in Johannesburg at the University of the Witwatersrand’s Centre for Defence and Security Management (CDSM).

The Horn of Africa |

Hosting affiliate: Centre for Policy Research & Dialogue (CPRD) Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Regional Coordinator: Prof. Medhane Tadesse

CPRD is a regional think-tank whose scope covers Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia/Somaliland and Djibouti. CPRD brings together security and development professionals with vast experience in research and project implementation in the Horn of Africa region. It strives to profile selected problems of security, peace and reconciliation in the region, which has suffered many episodes of protracted violent conflict that have adversely affected regional security, development and democratic transformation.
CPRD’s mission is to promote policy dialogue and debate with the ultimate objective of fostering peace and prosperity. The CPRD also provides data and conducts multidisciplinary research, based on which it proposes policy alternatives and strategic direction on key issues that affect peace, economic development and the wellbeing of the people of the Horn of Africa. |

Hosting affiliate: Africa Security Dialogue and Research (ASDR) Location: Accra, Ghana Regional Coordinator: Dr. Funmi Olonisakin

ASDR is an independent, non-governmental institute based in Accra, Ghana, specializing in issues of security and their relationship with democratic consolidation. In this effort, the ASDR brings together legislators, scholars, defence and security officials, and civil society activists in a serious, informed, and sustained exchange on defence and security issues.
ASDR engages these issues on a regional basis, combining advocacy and dialogue on the one hand while committed to research and analysis on the other hand as a means of expanding the database on the security sector available to civilian decision-makers and non-specialists. ASDR collaborates with likeminded organisations and draws its associates from among scholars and professional researchers, journalists, NGOs, MIP officers (active and retired), and Security Sector practitioners.
