Operational Objectives
-
To identify existing African SST networks and to derive lessons learned from these networks.
-
To identify those regions, sub-regions and countries where the activation of SST networks is of critical importance and where possible “gaps” in the security sector may exist and/or where good practice has been developed.
-
To provide options as to how such networks can best complement the ongoing SST activities in various African countries, sub-regional and regional organizations.
-
To enhance literacy on security sector matters through the delivery of training courses and organisation of workshops.
-
To promote collaborative research between the various networks and organisations in order to contribute towards governance-oriented policy development on the security sector.
-
To investigate how such networks can contribute to the development of a repository on African experiences in the SST arena.
-
To investigate how IT linkages can be established within existing networks, potential networks, national networks and at a sub-regional, regional and international level.
-
To investigate how resources, both African and international, can be leveraged to support such efforts.
-
-
To facilitate contact between key stakeholders who are contributing to or who can contribute to such processes.
-
To maintain a structured and ongoing dialogue, both formally and informally, with different SST actors in different parts of the world. In doing so, to encourage more south-south dialogue and learning.
-
- To identify strong institutions that can act as nodal points and co-ordinating referents for these processes.
