Culture and Values

The ASSN believes in accountable, affordable, adequate and appropriate security establishments in Africa’s diverse countries. The network is driven by the understanding that democratic governance applied to the security sector will help to ensure the above-mentioned values and will link security sector reform to broader conflict prevention and developmental objectives.

This network initiative is based on its members’ commitment to information sharing and greater communication among African security sector actors, contributing to the learning process and good practice. The network’s strengths are based on its capacity to bring new security issues and dimensions to the academic, research and policy agendas. Additionally, the regional/sub regional diversity and the different professional, organisational and sectoral backgrounds of its members add to the richness and innovative dimension of the collective effort. The network upholds principles of reliability and commitment to its stakeholders.
